Australia Day WA is an independent, non-profit, membership based association. We were founded in 1977 and in 2017 will celebrate 40 years.

We are part of the ‘national family’ of eight State and Territory Australia Day Councils and our peak body is the National Australia Day Council.

Our purpose at ADWA is to encourage all Australians living in Western Australia to feel a sense of belonging and a desire to contribute to a better Australia.

We believe that Australian citizenship is a shared identity; a common bond which unites all Australians while respecting their diversity. We encourage a sense of national unity and belonging by promoting and engendering alignment with core Australian values which include:

Respect – of self, of others, of law and the environment we all live in

Tolerance – of difference and freedom of each individual

Fair go – both in the way we act but also in providing opportunity for all

Mateship – Spirit of egalitarianism and compassion for those in need

We seek to bring all Australian’s living in WA along our journey towards a united and socially cohesive country, not just on Australia Day, but every day of the year.

We do this by acknowledging our past through cultural awareness and reconciliation; rejoicing in the present with our awards and recognition programs and celebration of achievement; and looking confidently to our future by embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness and participation by all Australians to make our country better.

ADWA runs a number of year round programs throughout the state including:

  • The Australian of the Year Awards (on behalf of the National Australia Day Council)
  • Aussie of the Month Awards in schools around the state
  • Citizen of the Year Awards through Local Government
  • Great Australian events and tours of honour
  • Australia Day Ambassadors program
  • Australia Day at Work

We could not do what we do without the funding and support from our stakeholders and sponsors. These include the Australian Government (via the National Australia Day Council), the State Government, our membership base (including all Local Councils, Corporates and Individual Members), sponsorships, grants, merchandise sales and partnerships with like-minded organisations.
